Cayden’s Journey to Bowest Motors: A Passion for Cars and Customer Service

From turning wrenches as a Honda apprentice to running his own aftermarket parts business, Cayden Young’s passion for cars has fueled his career from the start. His journey began with a spark of inspiration when his dad bought a 2013 SRT8 Charger, igniting a love for automotive performance and car culture. High school shop classes solidified his interest, and by graduation, Cayden had already founded Midnight Auto Garage, an aftermarket parts company that quickly grew from an online store to a full retail location.

While Cayden enjoyed working on cars, he realized that building his own business offered more freedom and satisfaction than working for others. This entrepreneurial spirit paved the way for his next opportunity: taking the helm at Bowest Motors. After a chance conversation with Les, Bowest Motors' previous owner, Cayden began planning for the future. Four years later, in August, he officially took ownership, continuing the legacy of quality auto repair in Calgary.

What Cayden Loves About Bowest Motors and the Calgary Community

For Cayden, Bowest Motors is more than a business—it’s a part of the vibrant Bowness community he proudly calls home. Known for its small-town feel within the city, Bowness is a neighborhood where generations of families have put down roots, and neighbors look out for one another. “You don’t have to leave Bowness to find what you need,” Cayden says, reflecting on the area’s robust network of businesses and professionals, as well as strong sense of community and local pride.

At Bowest Motors, this community connection is at the heart of everything the team does. Cayden values the trust customers place in the shop, knowing that honesty, fair pricing, and reliable service keep Bowness drivers safe and their vehicles running smoothly.

Cayden’s Vision for Bowest Motors: Quality, Trust, and Community Focus

With a customer base of over 2,500 and growing, Cayden’s vision for Bowest Motors is focused on expanding services while maintaining the personalized, honest approach that customers have come to expect. Over the next year, Cayden aims to increase the shop’s returning customer base to 4,000 while upgrading equipment and exploring new automotive trends—like electric vehicles (EVs).

Recognizing the shift toward EVs, Cayden plans to provide his technicians with specialized training and invest in the tools needed to service these advanced EV vehicles. At the same time, Bowest Motors will continue to offer expert repairs and maintenance for older models, ensuring that every vehicle—classic or cutting-edge—receives top-quality care.

A Peek into Cayden’s Life Outside the Shop

When he’s not overseeing operations at Bowest Motors, Cayden can usually be found at car shows, track events, and drag races. A self-proclaimed “90s Honda kid,” his passion for cars extends beyond work, with personal projects that include two modified Honda Civics—a '92 hatchback and a '99 hatchback—both fitted with upgraded engines.

While winter slows down the car scene, summer brings endless opportunities to hit the track and connect with fellow enthusiasts. Even vacations revolve around cars—like last year’s trip to the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, where Cayden spent four days exploring the latest trends in automotive performance and customization.

Cayden’s Advice for Calgary Drivers: Tips for Car Care and Maintenance

For Calgary drivers, Cayden’s number one piece of advice is simple: Don’t wait until it’s too late. Whether it’s an oil change, brake replacement, or tire rotation, staying on top of routine maintenance can save you from costly repairs down the road. This is especially true for vehicles used for work—your car or truck is essential to your livelihood, so investing in proper care is essential.

Key maintenance tips include:

  • Oil Changes: Conventional oil should be changed every 5,000 to 8,000 kilometers (or every six months), while synthetic oil should be changed every 8,000 to 10,000 kilometers (or every eight months). Always check your vehicle’s specific recommendations.

  • Annual Inspections: Schedule a vehicle inspection at least once or twice a year—ideally in the spring and fall—to check brakes, tires, suspension, and other critical components.

  • Brake Care: Don’t ignore squeaking or grinding noises. Worn brake pads can damage rotors and calipers, leading to more expensive repairs.

  • Tire Safety: Replace tires that are over ten years old, even if they have good tread. Age can cause rubber to degrade, impacting performance and safety.
